United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the UN’s principal global forum dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Each year, government representatives, UN agencies, and civil society organizations—including BPW members from around the world—gather in New York to review progress, develop global policy, and address emerging issues affecting women and girls. The Priority Theme for CSW71 (2027) is “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” CSW is typically held during the first two weeks of March each year and provides a global platform for governments, non-governmental organizations, and advocates to collaborate on advancing women’s rights, gender equality, and the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
