Persons Day commemorates the landmark 1929 Persons Case, in which Canada’s highest court recognized women as “qualified persons” under the law, making them eligible for appointment to the Senate. Celebrated annually on October 18, the day honours the Famous Five and recognizes the ongoing efforts to advance gender equality, women’s leadership, and equal rights across Canada.
